GOLF COURSE RENOVATIONS

Crystal Springs Country Club, Grand Rapids, Michigan was purchased by Doug Bauer who owns Watermark Country Club.  Watermark Country Club recently updated the course with an eighteen hole bunker renovation with our firm’s assistance.

Superintendent Steve Tedhams was the keystone in the eighteen-hole remodel of Crystal Springs Country Club.  A new clubhouse was also constructed and the club was renamed Stonebridge at Crystal Springs.

Chikaming Country Club has just completed a new 4 hole project on the historic Lakeside, Michigan course.  This project, 10 years in the making, was led from inception by Hank Harrison until he recently handed the reins to Scott Loess.  The new holes corrected playability, maintainability and special problems.  Eagle Golf Construction, led by Randal Pichan, did the construction fast, clean and within budget.  It’s been my pleasure working on this project.

Bruce’s projects continue to garner awards.  Angels Crossing (pictured) was again honored as the “Top 100 Residential Course” according to Golfweek at #90.  It’s one of two courses in Michigan in the Top 100 Residential. 

Congratulations to the Village of Vicksburg, who just purchased the golf course.

It is no secret that the world of golf course architecture is shrinking.  The National and world economies have raised havoc on new development of any kind, let alone recreational expenditures.  Private clubs have seen memberships drop and in some cases, plummet.  Daily fee play is shrinking with disposable income.

Opportunities expand as others contract.  I have stepped into golf course operations and experienced a coveted teaching assignment at Michigan State University as well as continuing with golf course design.
