It is no secret that the world of golf course architecture is shrinking. The National and world economies have raised havoc on new development of any kind, let alone recreational expenditures. Private clubs have seen memberships drop and in some cases, plummet. Daily fee play is shrinking with disposable income. Opportunities expand as others contract. I have stepped into golf course operations and experienced a coveted teaching assignment at Michigan State University as well as continuing with golf course design. |
As the instructor of Golf Course Design and Construction for the
Turfgrass Department at Michigan State it is a real pleasure to pass
on my experiences to future leaders in the industry. The students
experienced the thrill of golf course design, the nuances of specific
materials and the drudgery of cost estimating. Guest speakers
included current industry professionals John Percival, PGA, Randal
Pichan, Eagle Golf Construction, Tim Chattaway, Chattaway Excavating
and multiple golf course operator Jason Fargo.
